Two major classifications exist. Stanford and DeBakey classification. Stanford Type A if dissection originates before the left subclavian artery (generally surgical management) and Type B if if originates after the left subclavian (generally conservative management). DeBakey classification: Type I involves ascending plus descending aorta, Type II only the ascending aorta, Type III only the descending aorta. refl.in/h7
