Patients having undergone a modified Blalock Taussig Shunt procedure (MBTS) have either the left (acronym LMBTS) or right (acronym RMBTS) pulmonary artery connected to the corresponding subclavian or carotid artery with a tube graft.
The classical BTS (acronym CBTS) involved dividing either a subclavian or carotid artery and reconnecting it onto the ipsilateral pulmonary artery.

If the patient becomes excessively hypoxic at induction, this may be an indicator of reduced flow through the BTS to the lungs due to a decreased SVR (eg due to volatile anaesthetic-agents).
The goal in this scenario is to increase the mean arterial pressure with vasopressors or intravascular volume. #ref
