Short duration procedure performed on patients with plaster jackets for conservative scoliosis management. Involves removal of the existing plaster jacket and placement of another within a longitudinal traction device. The patient is balanced, usually in the supine position, with the limbs supported by staff and the head tractioned with a sling under the jaw.

An LMA is usually adequate if the patient will be supine, but in certain cases of kyphosis the plaster jacket may be placed in the prone position and an ETT may be more suitable.
