Cushing's syndrome is a term used to describe the consequences of excessive endogenous or exogenous corticosteroids. Hypercorticolism due to endogenous production is known as Cushing's Disease. Clinical manifestations of interest to the anesthetist are adrenal suppression, thin and friable skin, weight gain, impaired glucose metabolism resulting in hyperglycemia, and hypertension.
