Intravenous cardioselective beta 1 antagonist with relatively rapid onset of action (6-10min) and short duration of action (10-20 min) due to its hydrolysis by red cell esterase. No significant intrinsic sympathomimetic or membrane stabilising activity at therapeutic dosages. When using the 100 mg vial, a loading dose of 0.5 mg/kg for a 70 kg patient would be 3.5 mL.
