Chest tube

Topic aliases are alternate phrasings for a particular topic.

If a chest tube is inserted to manage a hemothorax, and initial drainage of blood is greater than 1.2L, or if drainage is greater than 200 mL per hour for over 4 hrs, then a thoracotomy is indicated. If the patient is older than 60 years, and drainage is greater than 100 mL per hour for over 4 hrs, a thoracotomy is also indicated. If the patient does not meet these criteria but is hemodynamically unstable or difficult to ventilate then a thoractomy is still indicated.

Improve to correct grammar or spelling, but do not significantly alter the substance of the original author's text.
