Fast onset short duration amide local anaesthetic. Used as topical, local, and regional anaesthetic agent, intravenously as a type Ib-antiarrhythmic, and intravenously as an analgesic in acute pain.
Its short duration of action is due to its relatively low protein binding, which also makes it amenable to prolongation of its action by adrenaline as an adjunct.
