Long line catheter

For CF tuneups, use an arrow arterial catheter set (eg 12cm) for a longer lasting intravenous long line. Insert using a seldinger technique through a 22g cannula in a forearm or cubital fossa vein. Attach posiflow valve. Prep the skin with tincture of benzoate and secure with steristrips and a transparent dressing.

Use sutures if child is at risk of pulling it out. #Barnesism
Aim for a vein that is heading towards the basilic vein, or the basilic vein itself. This is a higher flow vessel than cephalic and follows a straighter course into the thorax. #improve #LP
