Dosage in status epilepticus is 10-15mg/kg loading dose intravenously through large vein at a rate no quicker than 50mg/min (if young) or 20mg/min (if elderly). Rate in neonates should not exceed 1-3mg/kg/min. Typical dose in young 70kg patient would be given over 20mins. refl.in/f/phenytoin.pdf

Contraindications: Because of its effect on ventricular automaticity, phenytoin is contraindicated in sinus bradycardia, sino-atrial block, second-and third-degree A-V block, and patients with Adams-Stokes syndrome. refl.in/f/phenytoin.pdf

Purple glove syndrome describes a condition where extravasation of IV phenytoin leads to vascular compromise of the limb in which it was administered.
