Some reinforced endotracheal tubes may have no murphy's eye, and case reports describe episodes of obstruction of the tube possibly related to the distal lumen abutting the tracheal or bronchial mucosa.

Encountered this problem with total obstruction when in the prone position (no problems when the patient was supine)
The reinforced ETTs are useful when the head is going to be moved extensively during the surgery since they tend to bend more than the normal tubes and may be less likely to kink. However they can be too mobile in the pharynx and are prone to migrating especially when they are advanced blindly.
Many anaesthetists do not believe that reinforced ETTs are required for patients in the prone position if there is not going to be much movement of the patient's head during the procedure.
