Distinction between bronchiolitis and asthma is somewhat arbitrary.
Bronchiolitis is generally described in patients under 1yr of age, and doesn't respond to bronchodilators.

If a child comes with with bronchiolitis and they require escalated respiratory support eg nasal CPAP, intubation, HFOV, a procalcitonin level may help distinguish viral bronchiolitis from bacterial pneumonia

RCH Guidelines suggest otherwise.
For short interhospital transfers of patients with bronchiolitis, deescalating temporarily from high flow oxygen (if it cannot be done in the ambulance) to low flow nasal prong oxygen may be appropriate.
